His stage name was formed from the names of actress Marilyn Monroe and convicted murderer Charles Manson. His long legacy as being depicted in the media as a bad influence on children, along with his seemingly outrageous styles for which he models, and the controversy surrounding his lyrics all have led to his more pronounced public appeal.

Deadeye Dick - New Age Girl

Today's Video Clip -Best known for the song "New Age Girl" off of this self-published record Deadeye Dick became popular regionally and earned airplay in New Orleans and Atlanta. After receiving this airplay, the band landed a record deal with the independent label Ichiban Records. After its release, the song "New Age Girl" was selected for inclusion on the Dumb and Dumber feature film soundtrack. The publicity from the film caused the song to become a national hit, peaking at #27 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March, 1995.

In 1999 Toby Keith released his breakthrough single "How Do You Like Me Now?!" that year. This song, the title track to his 1999 album of the same name, was the Number One country song of 2000, and one of several chart-toppers during his tenure on DreamWorks Nashville. One of my favorites by his is "I Wanna Talk About Me"

Tal Bachman - She's So High

Today's Video Clip - Tal Bachman got his break when executives at EMI Music Publishing in New York City heard a demo tape, and aided him in securing a record deal with Columbia Records. Bob Rock (of Aerosmith and Metallica fame) signed on to co-produce his debut album. His first album, Tal Bachman, featured what would eventually become its hit single, "She’s So High," which reached #1 on three different radio formats in Canada. The song became a multi-format Top 10 hit in the United States and internationally, earning BMI's "Song of the Year" award.

Cherry Poppin' Daddies - Zoot Suit Riot

Today's Video Clip - Conceived as a counter against the rising grunge movement of the Northwest, the Cherry Poppin Daddies played an unconventional lyric-driven mixture of punk rock, swing music, funk and ska, among other styles, attracting a local cult following for their raunchy and frequently controversial performance art-like live shows, which often brought about bans and organized protest. Their subsequent studio albums saw the band further expanding their sound to encompass a variety of genres, notably country, psychedelia, alternative rock, Latin music and glam rock. But are mostly known for their swing inspired song Zoot Suit Riot from 2007.
